This review is not about bands or their performances. This review is all about the festival itself. We only write about reviews of our own experience. Since I started to live in Berlin in March 2024, I always had the will to start my journey through metal festivals in Germany. First I started to search for festivals in Berlin. The name “Walpurgisnacht Metal” appeared many times during my search. I believe there are not so many festivals before Summer. I decided contact the festival management for a Photo Pass so that I could take photos without disturbing others. I have received a very positive and professional reply welcoming me to the festival.
I saved the dates. On April 26th & 27th I would attend my first festival in Berlin after a very long time. The lineup was already exciting with many surprise acts for me. The festival took place in Orwohaus, which is a well known hall for similar concerts. In the first day of the festival, since I did not have enough time to travel using the public transportation, I used Bolt and arrived at the Orwohaus which is a bit out of town, after a 30 minute drive.
The venue is located in the middle of a quiet neighborhood surrounded by abandoned like buildings. A perfect setup for an underground metal festival. When I arrived at the venue, I saw many metalheads enjoying the sun at the venue garden. Although it was an indoor festival, the green grass garden where the team was preparing the festival BBQ gave a traditional outdoor festival feeling.
Without loosing further time, I approached the entrance where I was greeted and welcomed to the festival. I have received my photo pass and started looking around. The entrance corridor was reserved for merch, art and beer sales. The corridor directly leads to the performance hall. The stage is big enough for hosting such an event. On the left of the stage there’s another area for food and drinks with few tables and chairs.
After making eye contact with other photographers and having few beers, the bands started hitting the stage one after the other. The sound quality of the venue was incredible. Besides the well known headliners the line up was fortified by international acts that were amazing on stage with kick ass performances.
After the final performance I left the venue and got home using bolt again. I was tired by so satisfied with great musical experience. I was ready for day #2. This time I was ready to use the public transportation. From Alexanderplatz I took M6 to Dingelstädter Straße (16 stops), and walked about 5 minutes to the venue.
At the festival Credit Cards were not accepted. So it is advisable to bring enough cash for food, drinks and merch. The festival BBQ served steaks and hotdogs that were great for my taste. The festival fire that was lit at the back garden created a great outdoor feeling when many metalheads gathered around it.
Overall It was a great experience at the Walpurgisnact Festival, and I am very happy to attend it. It is a small but a very decent event organized by De Mortem Et Diabolum. Already looking forward for the next one.
